Rachel Miner

Upper Elementary Literature

Mrs. Miner has been involved with Literature At Our House since its creation 11 years ago, and she has been teaching the Upper Elementary class for over five years. She has a background in hospital/home-health nursing and teaches literacy full-time alongside her LitAOH classes.

"In literacy, I am passionate about seeing students change their view of what is possible for themselves. So many of my students have given up on themselves, and I get to see their lives and futures change as their confidence grows. Seeing both parents' and kids' tears of joy as they succeed… there’s nothing like it. Teaching literature is an outgrowth of that joy. Students get to live the stories of great literature, and that is such a powerful tool for growth. They get to decide what aspects of their heroes they want to make a part of themselves, and they get to keep those characters with them as inspiration. Our literary mentors can be just as powerful as our living ones, and seeing students grow with literature experiences is a true delight.”

(Please note, there are spoilers to the book in their discussion.)
